Disney classic set for 3D Beauty

Disney's classic animated feature Beauty And The Beast is to be revamped into a 3D presentation.

The Oscar-winning original is to be reworked for debut on the big screen in 2010, it was announced today at a 3D film festival in Singapore.

The film's original team will be reunited to work on the re-rendered movie. Producer Don Hahn comes together with directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale for the nine-month project.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures group president Mark Zoradi said Disney was "proud to be a pioneer in creating spectacular 3D motion picture experiences".

It's going to be a busy period for Disney, who – in addition to putting out 3D pictures including G-Force, Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Movie and Toy Story 2 – are also set to release Toy Story 3, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Rapunzel.

Zoradi added: "Disney has created some fantastic new proprietary software to make the 3D imagery better than ever, and we think audiences are going to love experiencing these films in a whole new dimension."
